The result of this collaboration is the perfect answer to a growing number of combined requirements including the need for high density computing (i.e. pack the greatest functionality into the smallest standard form factor possible) without giving up flexibility and a software layer that provides the highest level of safety and security required by highly demanding applications.
“Our customers cannot compromise on performance, reliability and, for most of them, on safety and security,” explained Robert Negre, CTO of Thales’ computer activities and Building Blocks Manager of the Thales’ Computer Center of Excellence. ”We have been a long time partner of SYSGO, and we know from experience the depth of their knowledge of the markets we are targeting. The best evidence is their PikeOS product which, has been designed from the start to address the needs for security and safety up to complete certification. We couldn’t find a better fit to our ruggedized PowerEngineC7 board.”
The PowerEngineC7 is the first member of Thales Computers’ new family of ruggedized 3U CompactPCI embedded computers. Designed to meet the requirements of compact, real-time systems for the most demanding defense, aerospace, industrial, transportation, and communications applications, the PowerEngineC7 is the result of the combined expertise of Thales Computers, provider of high performance, low-power SBCs such as the flagship 6U VME PowerEngine7, and Thales Airborne Systems, provider of airborne mission computers.
“When talking about well-known and trustable hardware suppliers in the market, Thales Computers is the one that naturally comes to mind,” said Jacques Brygier, VP Product Strategy at SYSGO. “The choice of Thales was therefore natural, and we are pleased to have their new all-in-one 3U ruggedized conduction-cooled cPCI embedded computer as a platform of choice for our powerful and highly secure and safe PikeOS product.”
PikeOS is a powerful and efficient COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) paravirtualization realt-ime operating system based on a state-of-the-art separation microkernel that is optimized for safety-critical and multi-level-secure applications. PikeOS supports multiple additional operating systems and Runtime Environments (RTEs), such as Linux, ARINC 653 and POSIX, together with their associated applications. Under PikeOS, operating systems and RTEs run concurrently and cooperatively in their own partitions. Applications running under PikeOS have total separation and protection from other processes running within the same system. The PikeOS partitioning system, in conjunction with its internal protection mechanisms, provides the highest level of safety and security available in the industry today.
