"Multi-core processors are increasingly being used and SYSGO already has experience in supporting multiple parallel PikeOS instances on a multi-core CPU," explains Jacques Brygier, Vice President Marketing of SYSGO. "This new port is further proof of our commitment to always provide the latest technical solutions to our customers, especially in avionics where this board is used."
PikeOS is an embedded systems platform that allows multiple virtual machines to run simultaneously in a protected environment. The secure virtualisation technology allows multiple operating system APIs to run simultaneously on one machine. Various PikeOS Personalities are available for avionics: POSIX including TCP/IP, Java and ARINC 653 including ARINC compatible time scheduler and health monitoring. The use of PikeOS Personalities enables a clear separation of applications in different partitions, so that the requirements of a multi-application system with applications of different criticality are met.
PikeOS has been ported to Kontron's AM4100 board for the MPC8641D processor, which supports both symmetric and asymmetric multi-processing. "PikeOS' virtualisation technology is a great fit for the capabilities of the dual-core MPC8641D on our AM4100 AMC board," said Irene Hahner, Product Manager at Kontron. "We are very pleased that SYSGO is offering this technology, which is leading in avionics and other safety-critical areas, on our AM4100 board."
Availability
The PikeOS port for Kontron's AM4100 AMC board is available now. PikeOS also supports the e200, e300, e500 and 4xx CPU cores of the PowerPC family, all x86 CPUs and various MIPS implementations. In addition to the PikeOS Native API, SYSGO's own personalities include ARINC 653, Linux, POSIX and OSEK, and partner products include Java, Ada, ITRON, CoDeSys®, VxWorks® and FidelityVCF™.
