Demonstrator of the joint Platform
Kontron’s VX3035 3U single board computer is a powerful multi-core platform for a wide range of rail engineering applications. With the hypervisor PikeOS, these applications can coexist without adverse side effects in separate containers, called partitions. Functions such as highly critical automatic train control and signaling systems (certification requirement SIL 4), less critical train control and management systems (SIL 2), and non-critical monitoring systems (SIL 0) can be separated and tested according to their individual safety requirements.
The demonstrator presented at the fair shows the principles of partitioning and separation of software on a central hardware platform by means of the hypervisor PikeOS. Communication and data flow between the applications and the outside world are controlled by the PikeOS microkernel. In addition to functional safety, this allows a review of the IT Security up to Common Criteria EAL 5/6.
"Thanks to short communication lines and close cooperation with SYSGO, we could provide our joint system in record time. This joint achievement leverages expert knowledge of the multi-core platforms and all layers of software involved.”, explains Robert Negre, Head of Business Line Transportation at Kontron.
As of now, the EN 50128 certified hypervisor PikeOS is available on the Kontron VX3035 3U.
PikeOS is a hypervisor intended for embedded systems with safety and security requirements. With real-time, virtualization and partitioning, it provides all the features needed to build todays multi-functional and high-integrated devices. The PikeOS architecture creates a foundation for critical systems allowing official approval by the authorities in reference to safety and security standards. PikeOS is the only European software platform for smart devices in the Internet-of-Things.
